King Cut has been a fixture in the East Village nightlife for nearly 6 years. He’s been holding down his residency at No Malice Palace since 2003, where his Friday and Saturday night functions have been dubbed the “The best impromptu dance party” in NYC (New York Magazine’s “Best of New York”). Influenced by the Golden Era of Hip-Hop, Cut keeps the party moving with his nostalgic mix of classic rap, rock, reggae, funk, soul, 80’s, disco and the breaks. Giving the nod to today’s hit-makers, there’s no crowd the King can’t rock. Through his recent affiliation with Takeover Theory, King Cut has opened for Cosmo Baker and Evil D. His past parties, weeklies, and residencies include Ava Lounge, Glass, Karma, Remote Lounge, The Underground, The Amsterdam, Good World, and NuBlu. On the Brooklyn side of the Bridge, he’s spun at Hope Lounge, Capone’s and Supreme Trading. Aside from rocking parties, King Cut recognizes the importance of giving back. For the past two years he has been involved with Urban Art Beat, an after school Hip-Hop writers workshop in the Mott Haven Section of the South Bronx. The program teaches students, ranging from 6th to 12th grade, basic song structure, writing, performance, recording and team work. Each semester culminates with two performances, one for the school and another at an outside venue. With an emphasis on the positive attributes of Hip-Hop, Urban Art Beat strives to give children and young adults the tools needed to creatively collaborate.
